Dr. Yachu (Sonya) Fan is a specialist in bilingual education and English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI), with a focus on advancing effective pedagogical practices in multilingual higher education contexts. She is affiliated with the Center for Academic Literacy and serves as Associate Director of NTNU’s Resource Center for EMI, where she leads EMI training initiatives, delivers professional development programs, and designs innovative curricula for university instructors across Taiwan.
Dr. Fan teaches courses including Curriculum Development and Design, IB Philosophy and Practices, Bilingual Education, and Academic English. She has made significant contributions to NTNU’s International Baccalaureate Educator Certificate (IBEC) program—the only IB teacher education program in Taiwan—preparing educators to meet international teaching standards and thrive in globalized educational environments.
Her work integrates academic English with discipline-specific competencies, emphasizing innovative approaches to pedagogy, English for Academic Purposes (EAP), and English for Specific Academic Purposes (ESAP).
