The first TUKUC Annual Conference was held from 6 to 8 November 2024 at National Sun Yat-sen University, Taiwan. The event brought together 54 scholars—19 from the United Kingdom and 35 from Taiwan—marking the Consortium’s first large-scale, in-person academic exchange.
Over three days of focused academic dialogue, the conference fostered new research partnerships and generated constructive outcomes in the areas of green energy, environmental sustainability, bilingual education, and language policy.
The conference strengthened Taiwan–UK research collaboration, with several joint research teams successfully formed. These teams provide a foundation for future applications to major international funding programs. The event also connected faculty to support student short-term study, laboratory internships, and learning trips, and to explore potential opportunities for dual or joint degree programs. In addition, participants agreed to launch an early-career scholar development initiative, including a dedicated workshop in 2025 to support the training of internationally competitive researchers.
Overall, the first conference helped establish a clear framework for cross-country, multi-partner collaboration, marking a shift from one-off projects toward a more structured and long-term model of cooperation.
Building on the success of the conference, Taiwan’s Ministry of Education awarded special funding to support continued collaboration under the TUKUC framework. With this support, 15 joint research projects were implemented—11 focused on net-zero solutions and four on English education and learning—and 27 faculty members and 27 students participated in visits, research internships, and study trips.
